Create Your LegacyOver the years, more than 500 donors have found a way to support the students and faculty at CSULB, even when they thought they did not have sufficient cash. They discovered they could make a gift to the University in their estate plans. Some made bequests, others created charitable life income plans, and others named the University as a beneficiary of life insurance or retirement funds. They learned that many of these kinds of gifts required no out-of-pocket cash today, and may be several times larger than the annual cash gifts they were able to make. Many donors gave a portion of their estate to the campus and still took care of loved ones.
These donors worked with the staff members in the CSULB Gift Planning office to explore various ways to give. They also decided to share information about their gift in writing so the University has instructions on how to use the funds when they arrive many years from now.
Our web site provides many tools to help you make decisions about your estate. Plan Your Will provides a guided fill-in form that will help you gather all the information you will need to provide your attorney and other advisors. You will also need to provide our suggested Bequest Language. The CSULB 49er Foundation, the recipient of any gift you choose to make, is the campus auxiliary nonprofit foundation that receives all philanthropic gifts. The Instruction Letter is a sample that you can use to inform the University how to use your gift. Using a letter of instruction allows you to make adjustments to your gift over time without having to change your will, trust or beneficiary designation. Sharing the information with us allows us to show our appreciation for your generosity during your lifetime through the Legacy Society.
You may also want to view Campus Impact to see how other donors created their gifts and how those gifts have affected students and faculty.
I am pleased to meet with you or your advisors to discuss ways you can create your own legacy. Contact us to get started.
Thank you for your support, and Go Beach!
